The ryokan is nestled in the beautiful lush hills and river. Amazing scenery. The staff was excellent and extremely helpful. The garden was well kept in a rustic way. Loved the outdoor hotspring experience. Our room was spacious and had a gorgeous view.
The room was a bit dated, especially the toilet. It wasn't working properly. Food was good but some of the dishes were a bit too exotic for us.
Very authentic Japanese experience. Lovely onsen with choice of inside and outside. Food a great experience and beautifully presented. Room was spacious
Not so comfortable for resting during the day (rooms have only very low seating
Absolutely stunning Ryoken. Surrounded by dense forest and next to a river the location is beautiful and serene. As soon as you enter you are welcomed by warm, friendly staff and a welcome tea and snack. Our room was beautiful - traditional style with tatami flooring and big windows looking out to the forest. The outdoor onsen was incredible, overlooking the river. The food was delicious - this Ry...

Beautiful property with a great onsen and great meals. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The outdoor onsen overlooking the river was fantastic!
While in a lovely location, we found it a bit difficult to get to from the station. The shuttle service is not very frequent and there were few taxis available
Beautiful facility. Staff were incredibly nice! Food was delicious! Very few negatives to say, if any. Thank you for having us a second time - we will be back!
The staff make the sleeping arrangements but only provided one pillow.
Onsen facilities were great, We also had the outside men’s pool to ourselves one evening.
It was exceptional. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed and taken care of by the amazing ryokan staff. It felt like a spa. The mountain views with the blossom coming out were stunning. The rooms were incredible with traditional mats and tea set up, along with futon beds at night. We had a balcony overlooking the valley and river. You are given traditional robes and slippers to wear everywh...
Not really a negative, but the futon beds take a little bit to get used to. If you find them too solid there are more duvets in the cupboards for extra padding.Read more
The meals were very enjoyable - multi-courses served in a lovely dining room. They did a nice job of providing the kids with kid-friendly options. I have been to many onsen ryokans in Japan and the outdoor bath at Hoeiso is still one of my favorites!
Hakone has become so crowded recently that getting around is difficult. I wish I had known in advance that we wouldn`t be able to get a taxi back to the station and needed to take the bus. The bus was very easy to manage but we did need to leave earlier than planned in order to catch our train. If I had known of this challenge in advance we would have been less rushed in the morning. Otherwise, ev...Read more
The dinners were superlative. The chef is clearly a gourmet. The attention to texture, the presentation, the freshness, and, of course, the taste proved that point. This was our first visit to an onsen. The staff took extra care to make sure that we were comfortable, and we understood the process. The inn was very clean and very unique. We absolutely loved it.
Actually, I have no recommendations for improvement.
