Historic property in an outstanding location

The staff, position and ambience all superb and facilities good. Breakfast and dinner both very good indeed, but the dinner menu was a trifle limited. The gardens were a real treat. This hotel is as far from a Hilton/Marriott as you can get. Ancient buildings repurposed and dripping with character and interesting objects/ art. Very good pool/terrace. There are no coffee making facilities in the rooms. It's going to be a bit quirky for some. The need to negotiate stairs might cause issues for people with mobility issues.Read more

The hotel is a very impressive historic building set in peaceful surroundings with a fantastic view over Guimaraes. Our room was spacious, the bed comfortable and everything was very clean and well-presented. We stayed for three nights and although we had not intended to eat in the hotel restaurant every night, we were so happy with the meal on the first night that we ate there each evening. There...

This is a most beautiful spacious monastery turned hotel, with magnificent gardens and pavilion. The service was superb and the staff were both friendly & helpful.
Dinner and lunch were disappointing. It had all the drama & fanfare of fine dining, with synchronized cloche lifting, but the food didn’t warrant the show.
Breakfast and food was over all wonderful. People were lovely.
Only the single bed provided was too narrow /small even for a 9 year old. Everything else was perfect.

I’m allergic to all red meat, so the restaurant menu was somewhat limited. Hard to find, even with GPS.
Beautiful gardens and monastery that have to be explored. Terrific staff that made the visit special and personal, especially the bartender. He guided us on the menu perfectly.
That we had to leave
A nice place that deserves an upgrade, you can feel Pestana Group who manages the place still applies management from the 90s…no fresh eggs, only on demand, coffee out of a Thermos, the served scrambled eggs almost cold…a stunning location that could do with a design clean up and service upgrade and you could take 3 times the price…!
