A lot of character grandness feels like you are living in a palace. Can not be reproduced by any other 5 star hotel. If you wish a life time memorable trip this is it.
A spectacularly beautiful hotel. Room was beautiful. Spa services excellent. Felipe LMT was amazing.
Service at bars and restaurants was not great. They served food at pool and never came to collect it. Due to service charges being applied to each check the staff was not as responsive as you would expect. For us the high level of children screaming and running around pool unsupervised was a bit much.
Spectacular setting. Beautiful rooms. Spa service fantastic. Felipe LMT was amazing. The manager was quick to handle service issues.
Service at bars and restaurants was sub par. At pool area they never came to clean up after delivering food. Clearly not working for tips causes poor service.
Amazing view of the Douro river, spectacular building restoration for a very old palace.
The breakfast was very crowded and very short staff to look after the guests properly,
The staff were well trained and the hotel was spotless. Particular mention must be applauded to Francisco in the bar. His attention to detail and personability was superb.

The hotel is beautiful and the views were amazing! The bed was huge which is always a bonus. Our room was made up every day. The staff were lovely, pool was clean and quiet and food was decent. We even got a little welcome gift (small bottle of red wine and some sweet treats) upon arrival which was waiting for us in the room. We booked the Grand View room with extra bed, however be aware that on the pictures on booking.com it shows that the room has balcony, but our room did not have one. It also didn't have an extra bed, even though we booked extra bed, but they immediately put it in after we pointed it out. Beautiful location and stunning old building. Facilities and staff were great.
Busier than I expected so staff and facilities were a little stretched.
