Pros (+) I just love the Houmas House. The owner was present and enjoyed talking with us. The grounds are beautifully decorated and maintained. Just go there and experience a piece of history.

Pros (+) The setting is beautiful.
Cons (-) The place is run down. Facilities must have been amazing couple of decades ago but they are in the need of renovation. The house tour was not well prepared. Few sentences red out of a paper.

Pros (+) The grounds were beautiful. The after hours woman was very nice and apologetic in helping us move to heated space.
Cons (-) No heat in our room so they moved us to a much lesser room (caretakers qtrs). Owner only provided minimal compensation for this move...he's forgotten what southern hospitality is. This kind of behavior will eventially bite him back. We are from Oregon and were much looking forward to this visit, he could have made it a wonderful experience, but now a bad taste in my mouth. Bummer.

Pros (+) The breakfast was hot, delicious and offered a variety of options. The location is rural but not too far from stores, shops, restaurants, and other places to see.
Cons (-) The bed was not as comfortable as I expected. We arrived late and weren't clear about where to check in. I thought that I booked a garden view room; however, my room faced the street. Everything else was above expectations. Lovely, relaxing grounds and facilities.

Pros (+) The view on the Mississipi from the nearby bridge. The gardens in the estate. The food at the Carriage House was excellent. Nice that we could start dinner at 8:15 after the House's guided tour.
