The Chateau Marmont was built as the first deluxe high-rise apartment complex on Sunset Boulevard, opening its doors in February of 1929. Its gothic charm and old-world European flair were inspired by the Chateau Amboise in the Loire Valley, where Leonardo da Vinci was said to have spent his final years. With each passing decade, every Hollywood icon of its generation - from Greta Garbo and Clark Gable to Marilyn Monroe and James Dean - has called it home. It has remained the hotel of choice for the entertainment industry, music, fashion and art world ever since. Within its thick, poured concrete walls and among its lush tropical foliage, it is still the favored hideaway of a clientele looking for the utmost in discretion, privacy, and excellent service with all of the warmth, personality and charm of a boutique hotel.Booking.com

Summary of reviews

Guests say
Guests appreciate the hotel's excellent location, beautiful atmosphere, and high-quality service. However, there's a notable concern regarding the cleanliness of the rooms, which several guests found subpar. Additionally, some guests felt that the value for the price could be improved, especially with some pricing deemed unreasonable. Overall, many enjoy the historic charm and unique vibe of the hotel, but cleaning and maintenance require attention.

Wonderful
Anne, Feb 2025
Pros (+) We were greeted with an upgraded charming large room! I worried this iconic hotel would be snobby, but I have never felt more welcome by the charming staff. Loved the ambience, midnight food menu, and breakfast in the patio restaurant. We met many of the guests, which was fun. The black floor in the lobby, gothic architecture, and gardens enchanting.
Cons (-) We only stayed one night, then we checked into the Beverly Hills Hotel. Next time we will stay at Chateau Marmont!

Pros (+) Absolutely breathtaking. The staff at the Chateau are fantastic! They go above and beyond for their guests! Nate was so kind to us and upgraded our room as we were on honeymoon! Would find it really hard to stay anywhere else in LA after staying at Chateau Marmont! Even bumped into Jessica Simpson in the elevator!
Cons (-) There was nothing we didn’t like!

Pros (+) Hotel with a lot of history. It is old but you know that when you go there. The rooms look fresh and clean despite their age. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We were completely satisfied.
Cons (-) Nothing, really.

Very good
Colin, Sep 2024
Pros (+) It is great to have Chateau Marmont back open. It had always been my hope to stay there. Had a nice big room but a shame there was no balcony (which it showed for this room type in the booking.com photo). A great hotel to see celebrities. (Baz Luhrmann at the next table one night). Concierge was always very helpful. Restaurant terrific too. Nice to have a kitchenette.
Cons (-) Could be noisy at night (but I suppose that is to be expected). Room furniture a bit of a hodgepodge. None of the styles matched. Quite a few of the doors had been removed which was a bit strange, especially in the bathroom area. Pool was fine but not as good as other high end LA hotels.
