On the little-explored Indonesian island of Sumba, Cap Karoso is alive with French-led culinary élan and contemporary Indonesian art. The hotel revolves around its farmland: Three hectares of organic agricultural land keep the pantries stocked at the three restaurants found within the traditional huts and modernist structures dotting the property. Contemporary Indonesian art abounds, as do Ikat-inspired carved wooden panels, handmade ceramics, and furnishings of rattan, bamboo, and teak that complement floors and walls of terrazzo and tadelakt.Marriott

Pros (+) We loved the stunning architecture of Cap Karoso. It is on a beautiful beach, the staff are absolutely wonderful, and the food was top notch! There were a variety of interesting activities included, like snorkeling, e-bikes, yoga and cultural education. Our only complaint was the uncomfortable bed due to a very lumpy feather topper that felt like sleeping on sticks, as well as the feather duvet wh...

Pros (+) Hidden gem that will gain a big momentum in the coming years. Go now before the peak
Cons (-) There’s nothing around so prepare to spend days long at the resort for food & drinks, which are on the more expensive side given the remote location.

Pros (+) The staff were exceptionally polite and attentive, consistently going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant experience. The hotel boasts stunning architecture and is situated in a beautiful location far from the city center.
Cons (-) The beach was covered with small, sharp stones, making it uncomfortable for walking. Additionally, the high waves made swimming challenging every day. The beach area itself was poorly maintained, with noticeable litter scattered around. Room Issues: Rooms advertised as having a sea view were obstructed by dense vegetation, detracting from the experience. Cleaning services were insufficient, as ins...

Cons (-) Contracted food poisoning from the restaurant the first night I arrived (avoid the pulled pork!) - spent three days very ill, unable to eat or drink, stuck in the hotel. That can happen, even in a good hotel, what was more upsetting was the response from staff. I was there alone, very sick, and not a single staff member checked in even once to see how I was recovering. They knew how bad my conditi...

Pros (+) Thanks for the warm welcome and pleasant stay. We loved the hotel! We particularly enjoyed the food and cocktails at the restaurant and also our yoga class and spa area. Also, we’d like to highlight how beautiful cap karoso is, we’ve felt very relaxed. It was a truly nice stay and we wish we had a couple more days to spend at cap karoso.
