Loved the canal suits with private access , and the staff were beyond lovely

The staff were very friendly and helpful with lots of smile. They helped us make last minute arrangements of massage and swimming pool reservation. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. We Stopped in the king suite with the private entrance and it was everything we expected it to be. The service from all the staff was just amazing. And our butler for our stay Carlos really made our stay absolutely perfect.
There was absolutely nothing not to like about the Sofitel grand. From the moment you drive in you will fall inlove with it's Grandness!! Excuse the pun!
Staff were a bit disorganised
First time for me in Amsterdam. We spent 5 nights (29th Dec - 3rd Jan). Room rate was 910 Euro. My intention was to have a memorable vacation. On the PROs side: - location; the hotel is in the red-light district in a very nice area. - nice building; this was the Town Hall of AMS until 1988 (if I recall correctly).
On the CONs side: - the room showed obvious signs of wear; the doors had bad marks on them, stains and scratches on the walls, tired furniture (I attached some pictures). Best location for transit travellers in Amsterdam. Located by the Dam Square and right in front of the tram stop.
The bed extra comfort and the staff is very polite.
The afternoon tea is a bit expensive and not good to eat ! The hotel itself is very good but the neighborhood environment is not decent.
Breakfast although promising has a lot of room for improvement.
