Venue Features
The Scene:
The Inn is eminently a part of Fogo Island - a place of wood-burning stoves, wry humor, dramatic seascapes, sensible luxury and generous hosts … an honest, unmediated touchstone that evokes a genuine sense of place. In a world of prepackaged experiences and digital noise, the Fogo Island Inn is a place that is at once vibrant and peaceful; it is the wayfarer’s rest between being here and understanding there…
Design:
Fogo Island Inn offers 29 distinctive guest suites each an expression of traditional outport design, featuring custom-designed locally handcrafted furniture and textiles. Each suite features a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows offering spectacular views of the North Atlantic. Designed by Newfoundland-born architect, Todd Saunders, Fogo Island Inn is an architectural 'gem' that embodies the new outport aesthetic that has emerged on the island. The Inn's architecture is bold, optimistic and distinctly of this place. Radical in its contemporary design, it still speaks the traditional language of the outports. Names No. 3 among the 'Ten Daring New Buildings Around the World' by Architectural Digest, the 43,000 square foot main building is located on a vantage point, 100 metres from the high-tide mark, and near the village of Joe Batt's Arm on Fogo Island's 'Back Western Shore'.
Standout Venue Features:
29 distinctive guest suites each with a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean, wood-burning fireplaces and stoves throughout public areas, rooftop wood-fired saunas, gym and yoga space, contemporary art gallery, heritage library and reading room, cinema (available for private screenings), lobby bar, award-winning restaurant, two Newfoundland dogs (Make, and Break), homemade welcome snack at your arrival, daybreak breakfast basket at your door every morning, free wifi throughout the Inn, free local and long distance calls, discreetly hidden technology (data ports), no televisions (unless you really want a TV in your room), personal Inn driver for arrival, departure and travel around the island, bicycles available for independent exploration, storm weather gear and rubber boots for guests, binoculars in each suite, all inclusive dining package option

Eats & Drinks
Food, Restaurants, Cafes, Bars & Lounges
Food, Restaurants, Cafes:
Chef Murray McDonald and his brigade of fourteen are the culinary heart and soul of the Fogo Island Inn. They are responsible for the Inn's 48-seat dining room, 35-seat lounge and for on and off-site catering. Chef McDonald, a native Newfoundlander who has worked around the globe, finds inspiration in the ocean's bounty, from ingredients grown on the island and from Fogo Island's time-honoured outport cooking traditions. Like the handmade, modern aesthetic of the Inn, the provenance of every menu is inspired by local and regional ingredients.
Bars & Lounges:
The 35-seat lounge is an intimate space located on the first floor where guests can connect or cozy up to a wood-burning fire. The lounge features a signature line of 'new' Newfoundland cocktails, taking old traditions and combining them with new spirits and techniques. Depending on the season, cocktails can be found shaken or stirred over iceberg ice. There is also an extensive wine collection influenced by the best of Canadian wines and Fogo Island's traditional trading partners (Italy, France, Spain and Portugal), and carefully picked by our sommelier, Jacob Luksic.

The Report

World wanderers and contemporary explorers get out your maps and check out the coordinates of Fogo Island, the precise location that is home to the dreamy Fogo Island Inn. This place is so magical that the hands on the clock will strike midnight 30 minutes before any other timepiece on the North American Continent. Celebration seekers, come here for NYE and you’ll be among the first in North America to ring in the New Year! This elemental place offers a precious opportunity to mark the arrival of the New Year from one of the four corners of the earth.

On the rocky shore of Joe Batt’s Arm, Fogo Island, Fogo Island Inn is an unexpected place at the edge of the world. This venue is for intrepid, curious and high-comfort celebrators. The buildings' rugged minimalist architecture balances traditional influences with a contemporary sensibility, which architect Todd Saunders has made and built just for Fogo Island Inn. A cultural destination in its own right where visitors and locals meet, the Inn includes an art gallery, heritage library, cinema and rooftop sauna. Each of the 29 guest rooms is unique, every detail has been chosen with purpose, and most of it has been handcrafted by locals. Fogo Island Inn has supported and will continue to support the local communities of Fogo Island by using only materials found on the Island and neighbouring Change Islands. The goal of the Inn is to promote growth on the island and help the economy.

HOW WILL MY GUESTS GET HERE?:  All points may be reached via national and international connections by scheduled commercial airlines and charter services. Air charters out of St. John’s reach Fogo Island within 40 minutes. The shortest charter flight from Gander airport is 30 minutes to the Fogo Island airport’s 3,000ft/914m asphalt runway. The airstrip on Fogo Island can easily accommodate a fixed-wing 12-passenger Beech 1900D aircraft. A helicopter-landing pad also located adjacent to the Inn. Alternatively, the Inn may be reached from Gander by way of an hour drive to Farewell’s ferry terminal and an additional picturesque 45 minute ferry ride to Fogo
