In the heart of the foothills, Auburn is becoming the destination for the weekender who has an avid love for the outdoors. Combine boutique wineries and farm fresh dining at local restaurants, the endless opportunities to submerge into the history of this idyllic town is the ultimate Northern California escape. All you need is car to get you there and a few days time to unwind and settle in.

With one of the best views over Auburn, this charming 6-room, boutique hotel is a cozy stay. Each of the rooms is well appointed with bright furnishings and luxurious bathrooms. In the morning, breakfast is shared in the dining room where fresh pour over coffee and homemade cinnamon rolls await.
Nothing ever beats a quiet morning down by the river — head to the trail that leads under the towering Foresthill Bridge and winds its way alongside the river.
There is an endless choice for boutique wineries and local breweries in Auburn — you could easily spend a few days trying them all. A few favorite wineries are PaZa, Wise Villa, and Viña Castellano. For breweries, stop in at Crooked Lane, Moonraker, and Auburn Ale House.
There is plenty to browse and see in the Old Town area of the Auburn, with historic buildings, small boutiques, and little parklets to enjoy the afternoon.
All roads seem to lead to The Pour Choice and it’s certainly Auburn’s hang out for either coffee or an afternoon bite. Pop in for their impressive charcuterie board and pair it with one of the many local beers on tap!
A wine bar and restaurant, this icon of Auburn serves elevated cuisine matched by an equally impressive wine list. You can get a taste of how fresh the local ingredients are with a menu that showcases a wide variety of food.
The blend of vintage pieces with hand selected items for the house and you, means you may want to book a few hours just to browse the shop. Think Turkish linens, antique Scandinavian furniture, and botanical-based beauty lines.
Some of the best whitewater around, Rise Up River Trips puts on one of the most unique experiences on the American River. After a few hours of floating, their very own chef will greet you with a dinner served riverside.
Every Saturday, the farmer’s market is open where you can find locally grown produce and plenty of other goods. I’d recommend grabbing your morning coffee at Clementine Coffee, one of the many vendors at the market.
